Eagle Rock Elementary
This elementary school is shaped by formal and pedagogical goals that prioritize a loose typology, separated classroom clusters, and visual and auditory buffering from Colorado Street. Administrative and communal spaces line Colorado and the north edge of Floristan, while classrooms occupy the west edge and Waldran. From the street, the building reads as thick and heavy; upon entering the site, the architecture opens into a lighter, more transparent environment. Each classroom cluster is paired with graded outdoor space to support exterior learning.
Primary entrances are located at the northeast corner and along Floristan, with a secondary kindergarten entry on Waldran. Circulation is entirely outdoors, organized around a main spine connecting the central communal space to Waldran and branching to individual classroom clusters, with a secondary path along the west edge linking raised classrooms. Two roof types articulate the massing: perforated, dynamic roofs over classrooms and the cafeteria pivot to modulate shade throughout the day, while static, opaque roofs extend and lift to introduce daylight into more solid interior spaces.
